Why is a value set to Recalculate?

The value [Recalculate] may appear if a change is made to the ancestors or if a new animal is added. (Re)calculations are not performed immediately. A task is added to the queue for the relevant calculation. Once the task is at the top of the queue, all animals involved in the task to be performed are identified for the relevant administration. In addition to the changed animals, the calculation may also affect offspring.

You can use Extended Search to find out which animals have the Recalculate value.

The step-by-step plan is as follows:

  1. Click the menu Animals
  2. Click on the dropdown list where it says Name and select Extended search
  3. Check the box for Number of results. No search data has been entered yet, so the total number of animals is currently displayed here
  4. In the ‘from’ and ‘to’ fields next to Inbreeding, enter the value ‘-1’. This is the value for animals that are set to Recalculate
  5. If there are search results, click on Display search result(s) to view them

If calculations are not being performed, there may be several reasons for this. First, check whether the calculation functionality is enabled.

First, there is a generic setting:

  1. Click the Manage menu
  2. Click the Settings tab
  3. Click the General sub-tab
  4. By checking the box for “Make administration accessible only to administrator (and stop calculations)”, all calculations can be enabled or disabled at once
  5. Log out of ZooEasy and log back in to ZooEasy.
  6. Check whether the calculations have been performed. Allow a few days for this to happen.

Secondly, there are settings at the detail level:

  1. Click on the Management menu.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. Click on the Calculations sub-tab.
  4. Check whether the Calculations are enabled. If not, click on the Enable calculations checkbox.
  5. Click on Save.
  6. Log out of ZooEasy and log back in to ZooEasy.
  7. Check whether the calculations have been performed. Allow a few days for this to happen.

Are all options ‘on’? Then there may be something else going on.

A situation may have arisen in which animals are set to Recalculate because they are affected by a pedigree loop. This prevents them from being recalculated. See the use case: Why is a value set to #CIRC?
