The search function always works the same way within the program. This means that as a user, you can:
- Search in one or more fields
- Use wildcards such as *
As an example, let’s perform a search within the Animals menu:
- Click the Animals menu
- By default, the cursor is in the Name search field
- Click the dropdown list where Name is displayed
Now you see all the search options available. As an example, we’ll search for animals whose names start with ch:
- Enter the value ch* in the search field next to Name and click Search
- The result of this search displays a list of animals whose names begin with the letters “ch”
As a second example, we will search the Registration No. field and look for an animal whose registration number contains the digit combination “01”:
- Click the dropdown list where Name is displayed and select Registration No.
- Enter the value 01 in the search field next to Registration No. and click Search
- The result of this search displays a list of animals whose registration number contains the digit combination 01
You can also search using more than one search field. As an example, we’ll search for all animals of the Centaur breed that are brown in colour:
- Click on the drop-down list where ‘Name’ is displayed and select ‘Advanced search’
- Tick the box next to ‘Number of search results’
No search criteria have been entered yet, so the total number of animals is currently displayed here. - Click on the Breed drop-down box and tick Centaur
- Click on the Colour drop-down list and tick Brown
Now, only Centaur dogs that are brown in colour are included in the search. - Click on Show Search Result(s)
The animals that meet these two criteria are now displayed in a list.
The search results are remembered by the programme if you click on an animal’s details and return to the list:
- Select an animal from the list
- Click on List
The same search results are displayed again.
The search criteria are also temporarily saved:
16. Click In file or Animals on the left to display the list of all animals again
17. Click on the drop-down list and select Advanced search
18. Click on the fields next to Breed and Colour
The same search values are displayed again.
19. Click on Search again
A warning appears in a pop-up.
20. Click the Yes button
The selections made in Advanced Search have now been cleared.
21. Click List
We are back in the list of found animals because we have not yet entered a new search query.
