Would you like to know how to select the best breeding stock to ensure a healthy future for your breed? Our Mean Kinship module helps you make smart, informed choices in your breeding programme. Mean kinship is the average degree of relatedness of an animal to the entire population. This value is a key indicator of future inbreeding and genetic diversity within a breed.

Animals with a low mean kinship are genetically important for breeding. Animals with a high mean kinship should be used less (or not at all). Using animals with a high mean kinship increases the risk of genetic defects and diseases such as epilepsy occurring within a breed. By consciously breeding on the basis of mean kinship, you prevent hereditary defects and actively contribute to the preservation of a strong, healthy and future-proof breed.

How do you set up the module?

Before you can start using the module, there are a few steps involved in setting up the necessary administration. We have drawn up a step-by-step guide for this, which we would be happy to share with you. Please get in touch with us.

Using the module in your situation

The module supports the calculation of mean kinship for a single breed. Does your organisation register multiple breeds? Please feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to discuss the best solution with you and provide a bespoke proposal, with no obligation.
